Infant Prefolds

We're almost ready to transition away from our infant prefold diapers. It brings a tear to my eye, and a little pride too.
My two month old baby is big and growing (just busted past the 10lbs mark!) and it's all because of me. Breast feeding isn't always easy, or convenient. But it's the right thing to do and she's thriving because of it.

Prefolds are the greatest newborn/infant diapers.
Coupled with a handfull of cute velcro and snap covers, our prefolds have been the go-to diaper. I have 3 Thirsties Duo, 1 Bummis Super Brite, and a couple of no name covers. I think the snap covers are a little trimmer, but the velcro is a life saver at 3:34a.m. when my hands don't work right. In the very beginning we didn't use a Snappi very often, but after about 2 weeks I started using one every time.
My skinny legged baby (8.5 pounds at birth) needs the tighter leg closures that the covers offer. Our selection of AIOs (for daycare use) are great, but still don't fit as snug around her legs as the prefolds.
Prefold means no folding
There's just no need to go crazy with complex diagrams or origami. Whether you just spread out the 'wings' of the trifold or use my favorite, the twist, prefolds are all ready for use.
Don't let the Prep scare you
Wash on hot, dry. Wash on hot, dry. Repeat about 4 times. And they just keep getting fluffier and softer with use.
Great resale value
Of course, you're never going to get full price back- but you can recoup some of that money down the road on Ebay, in a swapper group, or in consignment.

Ad Gloriam

I sometimes do things ad gloriam. I'll do an extra load of laundry or have the dishes done. Not that they don't need to be done, but I'm a busy person, and they could wait a few more hours. But this way when my husband comes home I can look at him all superior and say:
'I've still got xxxx, xxxxx, and xxxx to do, that I didn't get done earlier so I could get your dished done.'
It may seem like a dick move, but I never notice that I've done it until after the fact.  And generally it leads to me getting the 30 minutes of child free time I crave; to do dumb shit like blog or shave my legs.

Vegan Irish Comfort Food!

Champ!
I found one of those '50 best....' photo tickers of the best foods ever. I found this little Irish gem, Champ. Basically it's onions and potatoes with a shit ton of butter. Just the basic vegan switches and you'll have a fantastic plate of good feelings.

Ingredients- Vegan Champ

  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and halved
  • 1 cup soy milk- or veggie broth - or not chicken broth
  • 1 bunch green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste (heavily salt your water to boil the potatoes, or add the bouillon the water for added flavor)
  • 1/4 cup vegan butter
  • 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • (I also added a big dollop of vegan sour cream)
---Make sure you heat the onions in the liquid of choice before you add them to the potatoes.
---And my ratio of green onion to potatoes is pretty high, I don't think you can have too many.
I serve it family style in a huge mound with the butter well in the middle, or smaller plates with same said butter well.

Is it cheating?

My completely obnoxious three year old was led to believe this was fun, play in the sink time. Little does she know, she just did dishes while I made dinner.  Mom win!
